MOSKO MOTO RECKLESS 80L V3.0 REVOLVER

THE CHUCK NORRIS OF OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLE PANNIERS

Reckless: reckless, careless, reckless (from “WordReference.com“). I would say that, for the most part, we can all identify with the list of adjectives that identify enduro, adventure, dual sport… produced by Mosko Moto a decade old American company that in a short time has become an industry leader.

The deliberately changed vowel that creates the play on words between “rackless”, i.e. “without rigid supports for the bag” and “reckless” that we have already seen, also connotes in a way the same extreme dynamism of use of the system under study, constantly tested and produced around which, especially in Europe, there is a certain halo of mystery.

The spirit with which Mosko Moto runs the company is the same spirit that started the project in 2013 and that continues to allow the “lizard” (Mosko Moto’s symbol) to run around the world: to live unforgettable experiences in the simplicity of the natural environments that surround us, eliminating the unnecessary in favor of the essential. This is why they sell directly to the customer: no sales network, no distributors, no stores; this avoids making big numbers, but allows a direct and more human connection between the parties and, at the same time, keeps the quality of each component at the top with a sustainable price for the customer, without 50-100% surcharges from any middleman. The choice is confirmed by the stock which, especially in Europe, is regularly sold out within a few days due to the high demand from interested parties. Hence the halo of mystery that holds the product like a thermal with a paraglider and makes it fly higher and higher.

How to view a Mosko Moto product? There are three ways: at trade shows where you are almost always present, on your website or… by meeting someone who uses your products.

This time it suits you well, because I am a fan of the company and a long-time user of some of its products, besides having been able to see and analyze in detail all the others thanks to Roel Bremmersa great person whom I have the pleasure to consider a friend and international sales manager of Mosko Moto.

First of all: why a rack-less system? As already stated, the spirit is to live the best possible experience in off-the-beaten-path and sometimes “hostile” environments, leaving the superfluous for the essential. In fact, a system without the need for brackets allows us to save weight (4-5 kg of aluminum or steel saddlebag supports), size (the saddlebags, even when completely filled, are still very compact) and money (a set of saddlebag supports easily costs 200-300 euros) in favor of simplicity, dynamism and safety of use.

  • Simplicity: the system is attached to the motorcycle with four toothed buckle straps, two on the sides and two on the rear.
  • Dynamism: being rackless, you can mount them on any bike… A set of saddlebags for every need! In addition, they can be assembled in various configurations that allow their capacity to be modified according to the needs.
  • Safety: it is now clear that for off-road use, especially as the level increases, “soft” solutions provide maximum safety in the event of a fall compared to rigid solutions. In addition, because they are secured in a simple but strategic way, once assembled (two minutes at most) there is no way for them to come loose or jump around, shaking or losing their contents.

Close look

The main material of construction is “Ballistic Nylon 1680D“Hypalon” (a thick, heavy-duty nylon originally developed for World War II airmen’s bulletproof vests) with an anti-vibration/scratch/anti-slip backing of “Hypalon” (a synthetic rubber known for its resistance to chemicals, extreme temperatures and ultraviolet light) that is in contact with the bike.

The side bags (nylon containers) are wrapped behind the restraint harness and riveted to avoid seam strength problems.

The support harnesses and bags have aluminum inserts to ensure basic rigidity and avoid unnecessary jolts that strain the seams, supports and… the contents.

Inscriptions and logos in reflective materials for safety on the move.

The waterproof bags are NOT made of pvc (a material that weakens exponentially in contact with the sun and is widely used to keep prices down) but of 100% waterproof 800D polyurethane with welded seams.

How does it come?

  • 1 x Reckless 80L bag/bag holder system
  • 2 x waterproof side bags of 25 L each
  • 1 x 22L “stynger” rear waterproof bag
  • 2 x Auxiliary bags complete with bracket, waterproof bag and mounting kit (3 serrated screws)
  • 1 x Mounting kit
  • 1 x Specific bag for tent poles
  • 1 x heat shield with mounting bracket in case the bags are in contact with the exhaust pipe
  • 1 x removable pocket for documents/maps
  • 1 x 20-liter waterproof nylon bag

Assembly and use

As mentioned above, assembly takes 2 minutes (disassembly takes 1 minute) and can be performed on any type of motorcycle.

The side “containers” have a pivot point that allows us to adjust their inclination according to taste, or rather according to the anchoring point of the side straps, which we always want perpendicular to the seams of the container straps to give it even more strength.

Does 80 liters seem too much to you? maybe, but no one is forcing us to assemble the whole thing… and that’s the beauty of it! Moreover, an 80 can always become a 40, but a 40 can never become an 80.

So, what configurations can I get by buying a Reckless 80L V3.0 revolver?

  • Ultralight: 50 liters. Remove the back flaps (with transparent waterproof zippered pockets for documents and other items) containing the central bag and use only the side flaps. I did another eight-day transpirenaica and had plenty of room. As these are roll-up waterproof bags… depending on the contents, the 50 liters can also be reduced to 30. Plus, with the side straps I can keep the container compact at all times so it never wanders around or takes up space unnecessarily.
  • Minimalist: 58 liters. Same ultralight configuration but with the two auxiliary bags mounted under the side containers.
  • Single: 72 liters. Ultralight configuration but with a 22-liter central bag (which also has a convenient zipper from which the backpack-shaped carrying straps emerge).
  • Standard: 80 liters. Simple configuration with the addition of the two auxiliary bags of 4 liters each.
  • RTW ( Round The World): by using the well-known Molle system (the eyelets of military origin to which an infinite number of auxiliary bags and accessories can be attached) on the entire surface of the Reckless, it is possible to increase the available volume even more easily!

Conclusion

I’ll be honest: I’m extremely happy with the choice I made. I have always admired Mosko Moto products for their quality and style and I stand by my choice. In addition, the fact that I have a bag system that I can use in any condition, on any bike and in any configuration… makes me even happier and more confident in the choice I made!

The research and choice of Mosko Moto to fill the gap between the technology and quality used by the major “adventure” companies, such as Patagonia, Arc-teryx and The North Face, and the needs of the motorcycle industry, which at that time had not yet been influenced by them, was in my opinion a great innovation for our industry.

In addition, as proof of its proven high quality, Mosko Moto issues the following warranties:

  • sewn products and rigid parts: lifetime warranty
  • watertight bag welding: 2 years
  • functional damage due to accident or any other problem: 2 years with free repair or, if this is not possible, 50% discount on the purchase of a new system.
  • total damage due to accidents, falls, etc. (crash care): 5 years with free repair or replacement of damaged equipment (for more information, see the corresponding section on the web site)

But is Reckless for you? If you want to remain light, minimalist but with an important volume and give the idea of the tough and pure adventure rider …. then yes!

Oh, just so you know… the Reckless system is available in 80 liters, 40 liters and even 10 liters for the most minimalist!
